My first new enlightenment with Leopard comes via Automator. The new interface and work flow possibilities are endless. It’s conceivable that with all the new capabilities, one could survive without buying most of the utilities for sale on the mac side of things. I built a work flow with Transmit’s Automator plug-ins to mirror certain folders to our window server via ftp.
I had no idea once I had a working flow how to start it on an interval. This is where Frankster Two tells me “Just run a cron script, It’s about time you learn terminal command line”. I look at him and say “Right”. Five minutes later he iChat’s me an app called Cronnix, A Gui for crons. So 15 minutes later I have a fully automated ftp backup workflow without buying anything I didn’t already have. Amazing….
The best part is, I get to act smart and say “Yeah, I just usa a cron script to backup”. This is really a fun process so enjoy building your own solution. I’m thinking of adding “we are the champions” by Queen to the end of my backup just because I can. Cronnix is free and Transmit is worth the mula.
