Android First-look: Twitroid PDF Print E-mail
Written by Frankster

Here's a little bit on a Twitroid, a twitter client, for the recently released Android platform on T-Mobile's G1.  I admittedly have also found myself addicted to Twitter recently.  There's a lot more if you follow the link.

I'm pretty addicted to Twitter, so the very first application I sought out for Grant's T-Mobile G1 was an Android-based Twitter client. Unsurprisingly, the Android Market didn't have anything to meet my needs, but I did manage to stumble upon Twitroid, which as far as I can tell, is the only Android-based Twitter client available at this time.

Although the first official release will not be available until Monday (and the devs expect it in the Android Market shortly after), you can download the 0.7 pre-release version from twitroid.mobi. First, you need to enable "Unknown Sources" in the Applications settings on your device (Settings > Applications > check "Unknown Sources"), but after that, it is a simple OTA installation.

My Dad, the Switcher: Day Zero PDF Print E-mail

Even the hardcore are coming around.  I am Interested to see the long term result.

As far as database management and Windows programming is concerned, my dad is what you'd call "hard-core." He's been writing software since the 1960s, starting at Honeywell, then Hewlett Packard, eventually starting his own business. He is an expert with the HP 3000 minicomputer, which, in its day, was heavy computing iron to have lying around.

So it came as a bit of a shock when he called last week and said, "I'm ready to buy a Mac."

He and I are working on a web development project together using open-source tools. Because his workstation is set up for the Microsoft world of SQL Server and .NET, installing XAMPP was wreaking havoc with his complicated array of security software, including Norton and BitDefender. He wanted to start fresh, and work on a system without having to worry about something randomly disallowing access to port 3306. Understandable.

Hyperspaces Supercharges Leopard's Spaces [Featured Mac Download] PDF Print E-mail

Looks like spaces on steroids.   Gotta check this one out.

Hyperspaces adds several simple but useful customization features to OS X Leopard's built-in virtual desktop tool, Spaces. With Hyperspaces, you can set different wallpapers to different desktops, name you desktops, create a handful of keyboard shortcuts (including shortcuts to jump directly to a specific space), and much more. If you're already a fan of Spaces, Hyperspaces is a must-have addition. The program is developed by the same guy who created previously mentioned VirtueDesktops—an incredible virtual desktop app that pre-dated Spaces—so you can bet this one will continue to add great features. Hyperspaces is currently a free download (you'll need to pony up $13 if you want to customize more than two spaces), requires Mac OS X 10.5.3 or higher.
